Aaliyah Dana Haughton (born January 16, 1979-deceased August 25 2001) was an American recording artist ,actress and model. Aaliyah was born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in Detroit, Michingan. She appeared on the television show Star Search when she was verry young performing in concert with Gladys Knight. Her parents Diane and Michael Haughton were descendents of Native America and African American. Her mother was a vocalist and her uncle an enterteinment lawyer.
Rise to Fame
When she was 12 she was signed by her uncle who was Barry Hankerson to Jive and Blackground Records. She was later made known to producer R. Kelly who started to learn Aaliyah music. Her first debut album was released in june 1999 and peaked positions as 18 on the Billboard 200 chart selling over two millions of copies in USA. Her first single was Back and Forth and reached the top of the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs Charts. In 1996 she worked with producers like Timbaland and Missy Elliot to make her next album named One in a Million. The album had the same succes as her previous album. In 2000 she made her debut in movies starring in Romeo Must Die which is an adaptaion of Shakespeare's drama Romeo and Juliet.
