Corey Ian Haim, a Canadian actor was born on 23 December 1971 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. His israelian mother, Judy, worked as a data processor and his french-canadian father Bernie Haim worked as a salesman. Corey was Jewish. He has a half-brother from his father's second marriage.

Being a bit shy he started taking acting lessons from his mother. He wasn't passionate about acting and enjoyed other activities like playing hockey, playing music on his keyboard and also had a comic book collection.

His parents divorced when Corey was 11 years old after 18 years of marriage.

 

Career

Haim entered the film industry in 1984 playing the role of a young child cought up in a family war in the movie Fistborn (1984). In 1985 he starred in the TV movie A Time to live (1985, one year after Fistborn) in which he also received an award. In 1985 he played in Silver bullet and Lucas starring alongside Charlie Sheen in 1986 in which he showed a bit talend but the movie ended up not being a big hit.

He finally had a breakthrough in 1987 when he played a featured role as the younger of two brothers in Joel Schumacher's vampire film entitled "The Lost Boys" along with actors Jason Patric and Kiefer Sutherland. The movie got good feedback from most of the reviwers. Haim got more renown and won a Young Artist Award nomination as the Best Young Male Superstar in a Motion picture. He also started a recurring acting partnership with Corey Feldman.

In 1990 Corey played a role in Prayer of the Rollerboys, co-staring with Patricia Arquette. He started to focus towards direct-to-video releases and released the direct-to-video film "The Dream machine" in 1991. Other direct-to-video films include Blown Away, "Oh, What a Night" and The Double 0 Kid. In 1993, he starred as the character of a video game called Double Switch for the Sega CD, Sega Saturn and later for the home computer.

He released Fast Getaway 2 and National Lampoon's Last Resort in 1994, Life 101 and Dream a Little Dream 2 in 1995 co-acting with Feldman.

1996 brought in four more direct-to-video films: Snowboard Academy, Demolition High, Fever Lake and Busted (with Feldman).

He declared bankruptcy in 1997 after releasing both Never Too Late and the sequel to DemolitionHigh: "Demolition University", produced by him.

In 2000 he returned to the industry with the film "Without Malice", alongside Jennifer Beals and Craig Sheffer.

Corey was in terrible state in 2004 in rehab when The Sun newspaper did a review on him revealing that he was taking as much as 85 downers (anti-depressants). Haim said "The doctors couldn't believe I was taking that much, and that was just Valium".

 

Haim was ranked #8 in VH1's Greatest Teen Stars in 2006.

 

Personal life

Haim was dating the Spice Girl Victoria Beckham in 1995, and was engaged to Baywatch actress Nicole Eggert.

Corey Haim Died on March 10, 2010 from may have been an overdose. The police didn't find any drugs at the scene. Haim's mother stated that he died from pulmonary congestion and was suffering from water in the lungs and also had an enlarged heart.

Feldman said that Haim died poor and alone.
