Muhammad Ali is the most famous boxer in the world and three times world heavyweight champion. Magazine Sports Illustrated named him "Athlete of the Century." Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. was born on January 17, 1942 in Louisville, Kentucky. While a student at Duval High School Junior, Cassius was more interested in boxing than read. In fact, bike theft has been the event that triggered his passion for the sport. Ali reported the theft of a cop who got acquainted with coach Fred Stoner.Muhammad Ali took advantage of Stoner's help to get a star in high school to win five championships and Kentucky, two national Golden Glove championships and two amateur. At age 18, Ali won the gold medal at the Rome Olympics. After returning to Louisville, champion became a professional.
On February 25, 1964, Ali fought Sonny Liston in Miami and won the world heavyweight championship. But public attention was not focused on his victory but the style of fighting. Ability to confer flexibility movements turned into a boxer recognized as graceful and powerful.
This championship was the starting point in his career that he wanted it. Ali began to change things on both racial and political level. To express their discontent about racial discrimination in America, Champion has won the medal thrown into a river Olimpida. In 1964 he converted to Islam and was given the name Muhammad Ali. For this reason he became a controversial figure outside the ring.
In May 1967, World Association of boxing license and his title and he was sentenced to five years imprisonment for violating the Selective Service Act. After being released, Ali returned to the ring. The defeated Jerry Quarry in 1970 but lost to Joe Frazier, the champion at that time. This would be the first defeat as a professional.

Muhammad Ali was withdrawn on June 26, 1979. But at the age of 38 years returned to the ring to earn more money. He lost the World Boxing Council title, defeated by Larry Holmes and Trevor Berbick lost the match. After these experiences, he retired from boxing and won 59 matches out of 64 total.
The real fight began in 1982 when Ali was diagnosed with Parkinson's. Signs of disease were observed in the appearance of the Olympic Games in Atlanta where he received the honor to light the torch.
After an impressive career as boxer Muhammad Ali was involved in politics. He participated in the campaign of Jimmy Carter in 1980 and involved with the recovery of the four Americans kidnapped in Lebanon. He was the founder of World, World Organization for Justice, freedom and dignity. Muhammad Ali began writing autobiography in 1977 entitled "The Greatest" and the subject of numerous documentaries, one of them, "When We Were Kings", was awarded an Oscar.
